A Little History of Propane: Propane wasn't discovered until 1912 when people were trying to find a way to store gasoline. An American scientist, Dr. Walter Snelling, discovered that propane could be changed into a liquid and stored at moderate pressure. Just one year later, the commercial propane industry began.
Propane Is... Propane is a liquid fossil fuel stored under pressure in tanks and cylinders. In most systems, propane is vaporized to gas before it leaves the tank or cylinder and is then dispensed through a pressure regulator to your appliance. In its natural state, propane is a colorless, odorless gas. A chemical odorant ( skunk odor ) is added to the propane to give it a distinct smell so the presence can be detected. Propane is a convenient, versatile and economical fuel.
